Our Story

Xocolatl House is a small business that specializes in small-batch, artisanal Mexican cacao powder. We not only aim to create healthy and delicious cacao drinks, but we also want to provide an experience that pays homage to the cultures of pre-Columbian Mexico, such as the Olmec, Mayan and Aztec civilizations.

Xocolatl House founder Jessica Escarcega is from Mexico City. Before her journey to the United States, she traveled through southern Mexico in search of the best cacao. After a long expedition, her final stop was in Tabasco, where she met a group of women cacao farmers. These women are some of the few who continue the ancient traditions of pre-Columbian civilizations, processing much of the cacao by hand. We want to preserve these traditional methods and share the history of Mexican cacao.

As of July 2023, Xocolatl House has been serving the unique and exciting communities of San Diego County. Attending various farmers markets and annual events, we offer cacao drinks, cacao nibs and handcrafted art. We look forward to meeting all who come to try our products, and we appreciate you supporting our business.
